Typically, with a zero at 50 yards - the bullet will be close to 2 inches high at 100 yards - and 2 inches low at 250 yards. With my AR's sighted at 50 yards I feel confident that at any range from 0 - 250 yards - my rifle can hit a torso sized target as long as I have steady aim and good trigger pull.
Nov 15, 2014 · Frank Proctor uses a 50 Zero at 10 yards, check it out! Curious if anyone's heard of this idea before. I'd assume this works, since it came from Frank Proctor. Mostly curious since, the only shooting range in my area is an indoor range, 21 yards max - so doing 10 yards wont be a problem compared to 50 yards.
Fifty yards is our initial intersection, and 200 yards is our true zero. I can zero at 50 yards and know I can still The 50/200 yards zero is, in my opinion, the best zero for police and civilian shooters. Although the Marines adopted the ACOG, which uses meters as it's BDC, we still shoot in yards.
I also zero with 120SST at 50 yds out of a 12.5" *** barrel and it is about an inch high at 100 yds and close to zero at 150 yds. Using either an Eotech with 3x mag or Armasight Zeus 3x, so at that level of magnification its difficult to determine exact drop at longer ranges. Most of my shots are 40-150yds so with 50 yd zero it's minute of pig.
While magnified optics (that do not go down to 2 or 1x) can be used to engage close targets, they're generally slower and not as efficient as a non-magnified red dot for anything under 50 yards. The LT-724 places an Aimpoint Micro at the 11 or 1 o'clock position; on either side of the main optic.
Oct 05, 2016 · I've been drooling over the ACOG for a long time now. The expense has always kept me at bay. The more I shoot, the more I realize that the expense of quality is almost always worth it.
If you set your zero at 50 yards, the angles are less severe. The barrel is angled less aggressively towards the line of sight. Coincidentally, with a 100 yard zero, the bullet never really travels above the line of sight. As soon as it intersects the line of sight at 100 yards, it starts the downward fall again.
If I zero my rifle at 50yards, (shooting a 7.62x39 AK) and then I move the target out to 100 yards and aim at the same point, how far below my aim point should I expect the rounds to go? Conversely, how high would a round be if I moved the target in...Remember: 4 clicks=1″ at 100 yards, not 16, like at 25 yards! If you decide to sight in your rifle with a 200 yard zero, then 2 clicks=1″ with a 1/4 MOA scope. When zeroing at 100 yards, your windage should be dead on. However, there is some debate as to where your shots should be hitting elevation wise.
The concept of a battle zero is that you zero the sights for a specific distance such as 200 or 300 yards or meters, and that same zero will coincide with a zero at 25 or 50 yards. The United States Marine Corps M16 operator’s manual instructs personnel to zero the rifle to 300 meters, which has a trajectory crossing of approximately 37 meters.
I'll try and keep this as simple as possible, and inb4 zeroing an ACOG is easy; I have a TA31-F which I zeroed without issue. I bought a TA11-J 308 for my SCAR17S and tried to zero it yesterday. At 25 meters I was on target, the crosshair set on the middle of my target. I transitioned to the distance range, which is where my problems started.
According to my Oelher Ballistic Explorer program, a .30-06 with a 180 grain bullet at 2700 fps with a scope mounted and sighted cross the line of sight at 50 yards will be 2.4 inches high at 100 yards, and will fall back and recross the line of sight at 118 yards.
At 3,000fps zero 1.4 inches high and for the 165gn .30-06 at 2750fps, zero 1.6 inches high. Now with the vagaries of altitude, temperature and other factors like less-than ideal hold and trigger release in the field, you can pretty confidently zero your standard medium-big game rifle an inch and a half high at 50 metres and you won’t go far ...
Jul 18, 2015 · The first case (bottom curves) is where the vertical is tuned out at 50 yards. In this case the vertical at 100 yards is 7.79-7.46 or 0.33”. The rifle is not in tune for 100 yards. In the second case the vertical is tuned out at 100 yards. But in this case the vertical at 50 yards is 3.89-3.73 or 0.16”.
Yes an ACOG and I will probably sight in at 50yds which will be 1.6 inches high, what zero do you guys prefer? The thing I like about the 300 yard zero is you can pretty much hold center of mass/target at 25, 50, 100, 200 and 300 and your gonna be within inches

Zeroing at 50 or 25 yards. What if you don't have access to a 100 yard range? What if you only have 50 yards available, for example? It isn't hard to crunch the math if you understand how the MOA and MIL angular units of measure spread out as distance changes. For every 100 yards distance, MOA...Apr 03, 2008 · I prefer a +/-200 meter zero for my other calibers (.223, 5.45, and 7.62x39) and am new to the .308. While it’s fine for anything up to 50 yards many consider it simply too large for long distance shooting. Combined with the 1x magnification, it’s not really a true combat ready scope although it would be perfectly serviceable in close quarters. It’s obviously not as durable as a Trijicon ACOG, but it’ll hold up well enough for most uses.

Jun 18, 2008 · You need 25 MOA +/- 3 MOA to get from a bore-sight zero to 1000 yards with most normal match bullets (700-800 grains) out of normal length barrels (29-36"). Any Nightforce scope made will work for shooting at 1000 yards with a 20-30 MOA rail. I believe the 8-32 NXS to be the optimal match scope.
Steve is correct, your bullet will drop off considerably at 300 yards. We zero at 25 yards, using 130 grain corelokts. Once we get it zero'd at 25, we shoot again at 100 and tweak the L/R, leaving hi/low alone. Couple inches high at 100-150, back to zero at around 200 yards, but about 6-7inches low at 300.

I sight my 204s in at 200 yards as they are about 3/4 inch high at 100 yards and about 3.3 inches low at 300 yards (aim at head) and you are right on by aiming right on them. If 200 yards is a long shot for you then the 100 yard zero would probably be best for you and just aim straight on all the time.

325 yards equals 297 meters or 300 meters. At 25 yards, groups are 2.1” inches high above target center w/ rear sight set on “3”. 225 yards equals 205 meters or 200 meters. At 25 yards, groups are .7” inches high above center of target, just under 3/4", w/ rear sight set on “2”- so a 200 meter battle zero is a little better.

With a target at 100 yards and your rounds on target at 50 yards, how well your shots are executed is important. If there is a single item at this stage that is invaluable, it’s a good bullet vice.
There really isn't a "correct" answer. With 5.56mm carbines I prefer to zero at 50 yards. Due to the geometry of the AR platform a 50 yard zero will also give me a 200 yard zero. This is due to the fact that the 50 yard zero is the line of sight intersecting the path of the bullet as the bullet rises from the muzzle.

Jul 24, 2015 · No matter how steady your hunting rifle, hitting at any range presumes a proper zero. Flat-shooting loads beg a 200-yard zero, for point-blank range to 250 yards—or more. Zeroing, or sighting in, is simply aligning the sights (scope) on your rifle so the bullet hits where you aim at a certain distance.

Nov 18, 2015 · If you could dial in enough lift to achieve a 600-yard zero with your .30-06, you’d still have to aim 17 feet high to hit a 1,000-yard bull’s-eye! Of course, a truly long-range zero comes with severe mid-range penalties. Even that 600-yard zero would put ’06 bullets 2½ feet high at 300 yards! × I fired a group at one hundred yards, removed the optic and mount from my rifle, and then remounted it on the same position on the picitinny rail. I fired a few more shots and they impacted with my first group, so I know that the LT100 maintains it's zero if mounted on the same picitinny slot.

For which, a 160 yard zero gets a 450B out to 200 yards without holding over or under. Either way, 5” or 8”, a 50 yard zero only stays in the lower bound out to 175-190, whereas a 160-180yard zero for a true MPBR will give the hunter another 25-30yards before slipping off of the bottom of the vitals while holding dead on. If you zero at 50 yards, the end result is almost the same. Using this zero will put you 1.5" high at 100, about 1" low at 25 and about .5" high at 200. This is a much more practically useable range than when you zero at 100.

The second convergence will then occur at 200 to 250 yards and the rifle will shoot six inches, or a little less, low at 300 yards. At 100 yards, the rifle will shoot about 1.5 inches high and 1.5 inches low at 25 yards.
